Choosing A Dating Website

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Maxine Casey There has been an explosion of online dating sites over the last couple of years with a huge variety of themes. There are special interest sites for almost anything you can think of - outdoor enthusiasts, couch potatoes, religious, non-religious, gays, lesbians, bikers, cooks, hairy biker cooks, Italians, Hispanics, bookworms - like I said, almost anything you can think of. As well as that, you have the different types of membership sites. There are the large paid sites with many and varied features like chat rooms, Instant Messaging, compatibility profiles, personality testing and, the latest things, mobile dating and video messaging. There are the less expensive paid sites where you get a few of those features and then there are the free sites where you can browse a few profiles but do little else. I dont recommend those but, if money is a real concern, they are better than nothing. So how do you choose the right one for you? Here are some things to consider: 1. Your needs and preferences. Do you have a particular religion, ethnic type or nationality preference? Do you want to chat to people with the same interests or hobbies as you? Or are you happy with a more general site where you can meet lots of different types of people? 2. Cost. How much do you want or can afford to spend each month on your membership? Do you want to be able to buy a trial membership for 1 week or are you happy to commit to 1 month or longer? 3. Features. Which features are important to you? Do you want a profile matching system or would you prefer to make up your own mind about who is right for you? Do you want to be able to use chat rooms and Instant Messaging or would you be perfectly happy with just email? 4. Some sites offer local private events such as speed dating or even singles traveling adventures. Would you be interested in that? 5. Privacy. Some websites allow you to limit who can view your picture or your profile. Does this matter to you or do you want as much exposure as possible? 6. Safety. Some dating sites do background checks of all subscribers to certify a variety of things such as age, marital status, criminal background, career or income. Would you feel safer and happier having this feature? These are just some, but not all, of the things you should consider when choosing a dating website or websites. If you do your homework, you can make online dating the pleasurable experience it should be. Career Development - When It’s Time for a Change

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Martin Haworth There’s a certain courage required to hear your gut. To really be true to how you are feeling. And that is never more important than in your career. Sometimes people feel that they are not completely happy. At other times they might have a sense of distance from the business or organisation they are in. This lack of ‘alignment’ makes for discomfort - and many people listen to it for the whole of their careers (and lives) and yet never truly hear it. So what are the clues that can help us realise that if change is in the air, it is a good thing, rather than something to fear? Here are 19 things to look out for:- You feel bored You actually yawn a lot You get irritated easily You find yourself daydreaming (maybe even looking out the window) You get excited when something out of the ordinary happens Each year feels repetitive You get in late You get sick a lot Cynicism about your orgaisation starts to increase You team up with your own people against the organisation You have a sense of being ‘locked in’ You see others progress and wonder why Sunday evenings are filled with dread Some jobs are really hard to bring yourself to Cycles repeat themselves (about 5-yearly) ‘Grumpy’ is a description you overhear about yourself You lose faith in ‘head office’ (often) ‘Things ain’t what they used to be’ You find yourself muttering to yourself a lot (though this might be an age thing too!) So what to do about it. Firstly - recognising that your career is in a rut is a big step - so consider yourself lucky that you spotted it and took stock. Secondly - realise that you do have choices. You always have choices - and only you can make them - no-one else. Thirdly - think through what options you have in your existing job or role - all may not be lost, you might have options which suit who you really want to be, in exactly the organisation you are in - just get thinking and above all, get creative about it. Fourthly - consider what you love doing in your life; read the job sections and seek out jobs that truly appeal, however unlikely they might seem for you. Ask yourself what captures your imagination about them - tease it out (use the ‘Why’s’ tactic in “Solve Problems Permanently - Ask WHY”) Fifthly - consider how you can leverage your existing role to enable you to reach a longer-term goal of a sort of job you like - what is already there that you can utilise. Finally - create an escape plan, with timescales to get to where you really do want to be - it may have a couple of steps - but that’s just great. It adds to the fun! For a bit more help about changes of direction, try out What Color is Your Parachute?, especially the ’skills as verbs’ section (aka values!) - details on the webpage in the clickthrough at the bottom. Mobile Car Washing and Doing Business with Regional Rent-A-Car Companies

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Lance Winslow If you run a mobile auto detailing business or a mobile car wash business you may wish to consider doing business with regional car rental agencies. You see, typically the larger corporate rent-a-car type corporations may not be so easy for you to get as customers if you’re a small independent mobile car wash firm. However, many regional Rent-A-Car companies and agencies do in fact make sense as clients. Also normally they do not require as much paperwork or insurance liability limits and this makes them excellent target customers. Now then, let’s take a look at one regional car rental company to understand the dynamics and how these companies operate; Doing Business with ACE Rent-A-Car ACE Rent-A-Car is relatively new compared to the others discussed in this report. They currently operate in 15 states in the US and also in Athens Greece. Most of their lots have between 30-50 cars there at any one time and rotate about 300 cars. They occasionally sell cars at the rental lots with a giant sticker on the window, but sometimes they ship them to the nearest auto auction. ACE needs washing services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Typically you will wash anywhere from 10-15 cars. Their largest office is in Las Vegas. To find locations nearest you go to: http://www.acerentacar.com/default.asp?action=Locations We recommend charging them a minimum of five cars to show up and $6.00 per car wash and vacuum. For detailing charge them $ 75.00. They keep their cars longer than most rental companies. Their cars will have over 40,000 miles on them at the time of sale, so they will need extra attention. Do not ever buy one of their rent-a-cars, they are shot, as they get every last drop out of them. You may wish to consider this if you wish to expand your mobile car wash business in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. How Important Is Music At A Wedding? Some Ideas

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Charlotte Jones Music has been described as The only sensual pleasure without vice and is able to create and change moods, communicate and unite people to name but a few. It is therefore very important to realize and remember this as you plan your big day. There are many opportunities to include the use of music during a wedding day to evoke the create mood and feeling. These are some ideas: Walking down the isle The organ is usually played here (The Wedding March) as the bridal party and bride process down the isle. Some other ideas are Trumpet Voluntary, a string ensemble, Wedding Song Kenny G played on the saxophone, Ave Maria sung by a female vocalist. A good CD to purchase for some more ideas is “A Day to Remember”. During the ceremony The signing of the register is a great time to include some live music for you guests to enjoy and reflect whilst the photographs are taken and the register is signed. The choice of music in all these cases depends on personal taste however a solo flute playing Chanson De Matin by Elgar or Air on the G String by Bach are pieces of music seem to evoke the reflective emotions you wish to create for this time in the proceedings. The drinks reception What a great time to start the party and get everyone in the mood. This is a celebration of the union of two people. A small jazz trio or quartet is perfect to create this vibe. The live music also gives your guests a talking point and is very use full for hiding awkward silences. During the meal Many people dont realize just how important music is during a meal. Every restaurant plays music at all times this creates a relaxing ambiance to the room and stops it feeling unwelcoming. A saxophone and guitar duo or a piano and vocalist are lovely options to have playing live during your meal. At the reception party Heres the part which has got to provide that special something that makes your wedding unique. Hiring a good function band which is able to play many different styles of music to cater for everyones tastes really can make the difference to your day being good and brilliant. However its really important to check you hear the music that you want hear. A really great idea is to have your first dance song played live by the band believe me this will have guests shedding tears! The Cost of Giving Up

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Nick Arrizza, M.D. I’m sure at times of deep crisis many of you have considered thoughts of “giving up”. What is the cost to you of entertaining such thoughts? Well as one client with a progressively deteriorating illness I was working with stated “it’s like having one foot out the back door”. So what does it mean to “have one foot out the back door”? Well it means that “YOU” are not fully in your body! Now if “YOU” are the life giving force or energy that your body, out of necessity, requires to sustain it in a healthy and functional state (i.e. the way that a plant requires the life giving energy of the Sun to sustain it) what do you think will happen to your body if you are not fully in it? Well a plant eventually dies without the Sun. In the same way your body will die without you! So when are you not “fully” in your body? Well when you for instance: 1) Entertain giving up, 2) When you dislike your body or yourself for some reason, and 3) When you choose to harbor toxic things in your bio-field and therefore your body. Where are you left when your body is not fully healthy and functional? Well in a state of crisis. In fact, I would say that “all” crises in your life are the result of you not being fully in your body all the time. In other words, by choosing “life” i.e. to be in your body, you are likely to ward off any crisis. That is because, by choosing to be fully in your body always, your body will experience a strength and resilience you have likely never known before. So, where would you like to have your two feet? If you would like to know more you may wish to visit the web site in my bio below. Dr. Nick Arrizza is trained in Chemical Engineering, Business Management & Leadership, Medicine and Psychiatry. An Introvert’s Survival Guide to Marketing

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Sandra Martini Have you ever walked into a networking event full of strangers and wished you could be anywhere else? Traditional business building rules tell us that we need to network. Attending a charity breakfast where you give a 2-minute spiel on your business, community luncheon where you eat rubber chicken and another cocktail hour where you feel like youre on a speed date going from business owner to business owner with barely enough time to remember their names, much less make a great impression. It doesnt have to be that way! Years ago, while deeply involved in Corporate America (I still shudder when saying that phrase), I took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator a personality assessment. My fears were confirmed: I am an introvert (actually, an ISTJ for those of you familiar with the Myers-Briggs). High level summary introverts are people who recharge their energy from within while extroverts get energy from people and other external sources. I am one of those people who draws energy and ideas from solitude and reaching within my own psyche. Depending on the situation, everyone is both an introvert and an extrovert. Put me in a room with some of my friends and I take on the persona of a stand-up comedian and couldnt be more at ease. Put me in a large conference room where I know nobody and am not presenting and I become the silent wallflower. Given the choice, I prefer to be with a few close friends rather than at a large party where I know no one. While Ive been told Im an excellent public speaker (birth by fire in the corporate world does wonders), it takes a lot of energy for me to get in the zone and I have learned to do this by being well-prepared on the topic and discussing things Im passionate about. The following marketing techniques are some that I have used successfully and are designed to work for the introverted among us. 1. Participate in online forums and discussion groups. Its easy to be authentic and true to yourself while marketing your business by participating on online forums such as Yahoo Groups. You can spend as much or as little time getting to know the other small business owners, virtual assistants, etc. as you wish. There is no face to face, will they like me?, will they trust me? type of feeling. You can take your time in responding to those issues that interest you, rather than feel on the spot like you may at your average networking event. I belong to several such groups and have met many wonderful people this way and have learned much from different business owners. Its a great way to pick the brains of people in the same situation as yourself. 2. Write articles. Take advantage of your writing skills and write and submit articles online. One of my clients was doing some research for her business and told me shed seen one of my articles on www.killermarketingarsenal.com. The next day I received a notice from www.sbinformer.com (a small business site) asking permission to use another of my articles. As a direct result of my writing articles, I now have an audience that I may have never otherwise reached. You never know what search engines just might pick up on your article, or how your information could be valuable to someone else. 3. Know your strengths. Successful marketing requires that you know your strengths and your weaknesses. Take time to ask friends, family, and others what they feel are your greatest strengths and weaknesses. You might be surprised to discover that what you thought wasnt a talent is perceived as such by others. When you find yourself in an uncomfortable or nerve-wracking situation, focus on your strengths. You will be naturally more at ease when discussing something thats aligned with your passions and that you have learned is valuable to others. 4. Visualization. Have you ever thought about something so much that when it actually happened it felt like dj vu? Visualization is a great tool that allows you to script out an event before it happens. Just think you can anticipate the challenges (for example, no one speaks to you when you arrive) and plan how to overcome them before they occur. Plan ahead for various situations and scenarios to avoid being caught off guard. 5. Stick to your values. Its important not to try and change yourself in order to successfully market your business. You will be most effective when you allow the natural you to come through. For those of us who are introverts, that means establishing a marketing plan and environment that supports us as well as follows the path by which we mean to grow with. Go get ‘em! Cranberry - A Home Remedy for Bladder and Urinary Tract Infections

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Mary Welty Cranberry Vaccinium macrocarpon Common Names: American Cranberry, Arandano, Bearberry, Bog Cranberry, Craneberry, Large Cranberry, Mossberry Medicinal Part: Berries Description: Cranberries are a unique fruit. They can only grow and survive under a very special combination of factors: they require an acid peat soil, an adequate fresh water supply, sand and a growing season that stretches from April to November, including a dormancy period in the winter months that provides an extended chilling period, necessary to mature fruiting buds. 1 Properties and Uses: Anti-oxidant, anti-bilious, anti-putrid, diuretic, laxative, refrigerant, sub-astringent, vasodilator. Indicated for: Candida and other bacterial conditions, diarrhea, dropsy, fevers, scurvy, stomach ulcers, urinary tract infections (UTIs) of the bladder and urethra, urolithiasis. 2 I always find it amazing how the most common plants can harbor such beneficial properties. Take the cranberry for instance. Its common enough, making an annual appearance on most every American table at Thanksgiving time. But historically, its role was far more prominent as a Native American cure for drawing poison from an arrow wound, to calm the nerves, and even as a dye. For over 30 years now Ive used cranberry juice to treat bladder or urinary tract infections, and I still find it unnerving how quickly the medical community will scoff at this common application that has been utilized for centuries. However, recent studies have shown that the use of cranberry can indeed impact such infections by preventing bacteria from attaching to the walls of the urinary tract. Cranberries may also protect against heart disease and certain types of cancer, probably through the antioxidant and anti-tumor effects of flavonoids found in cranberry. 3 Using Cranberry to Treat Bladder and Urinary Infections: As with most herbal remedies, early intervention is the key. Cranberry should be taken at the first signs of a growing infection, (frequent urge to urinate and a painful, burning feeling in the area of the bladder or urethra during urination). Cranberry can be taken in juice form, by diluting cranberry concentrate with water, as a supplement or tincture. If you choose to simply drink cranberry juice, read the product label carefully. Many so-called cranberry cocktails contain little or even no actual cranberry juice. While cranberry juice is always diluted because of its strong flavor, you should find a juice containing a minimum of 20% cranberry. At the first sign of urinary problems, drink 3 to 4 (8) oz. glasses of cranberry juice daily until the symptoms disappear. If the symptoms persist or worsen consult your health care professional, as an antibiotic will likely be needed to get the infection under control. However, even if an antibiotic were required, I would recommend continuing with the cranberry juice, as it is helpful in reducing the painful symptoms associated with such infections. So many Doctors today are concerned about the over-prescribing of antibiotics, and cranberry juice is one home remedy that, if utilized in the early stages of bladder and urinary infections, can offer relief without the need or expense of a doctor visit and subsequent medications. 1. http://www.cranberries.org/cranberries/history.html 2. http://www.herbwisdom.com/herb-cranberry.htm 3. http://www.raysahelian.com/cranberry.html The information provided by UsingHerbs.Com is intended to heighten awareness of potential health care alternatives and should not be considered medical advice. Substitute For Popular Bonsai Species In Cold Climate

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Patrick Desnoyers Bonsai culture offers the greatest and most beautiful tree species on this planet. Since bonsai originate from asia, most likely from China and Japan, the most popular trees are originating from this region. Doing bonsai elsewhere in the world can be tricky. If your climate doesnt match the climate in Japan, you may not be able to grow successfully some of the most popular species. Your temperature range could be too cold in winter or too hot in summer. The best examples are the tropical species that cannot be grown year long in the northern climate unless you have the proper setup indoor or the winter could be too cold for hardy species. Rest assure, nothing is lost. Many tree species originating from certain region or growing locally can be great substitute for a bonsai candidate. The most praised maple is without a doubt the trident maple. (Acer buergerianum) This specie is cold hardy to USDA zone 5 which is around minus 27 celsius. In Canada, the winters are getting harsher temperature. A great substitute would be the Amur maple (Acer Ginnala) which is cold hardy to USDA zone 2, minus 45 celsius. This species is a great replacement since it is very cold hardy, possesses small trilobed leaves and is a fast grower. Other species liked from bonsai enthusiast are the Japanese pines. But, once again, cold can be a disadvantage. To the rescue comes the mugho pine. This pine will tolerate some very cold temperature plus it is a very tough plant tolerating many bonsai mistake. The mugho pine needles can be reduced much like the Japanese counterpart plus it displays a textured bark. Another popular specie is the Chinese elm (ulmus parvifolia) but once again, cold is hard on this specie. For a replacement, the less known Siberian elm (ulmus pumila) can be as beautiful as the chinese one. Much like the Chinese elm, the Siberian elm as twiggy branching, grows fast and leaves are reducing well with proper technique. Some others tree species are the American or tamarack larch (Larix Laricina) for an evergreen, the sargeant crabapple (malus sargentii) for a flowering and fruit producing tree or the European birch (betula pendula) for a broadleaf tree. These all displays beautiful characteristics. For instance, the American larch is the only evergreen to loose its needles when fall show itself, the needles will turn from green to yellow for a few weeks before shedding. The sargeant crabapple will give you some nice white to pink flowers in spring and produce red fruit in autumn. The European birch as a nice white paperish bark that peel itself easily. Plus all these are moderate to fast growing tree that would yield a nice bonsai in a few years. Avid full time hobby bonsai grower. As been practicing bonsai and gardening for more then 8 years. Bankruptcy Not As a Debt Solution

Monday, September 17th, 2007

By Martin Rogers When people are flooded with debts, and they see no way out of their situation, they start thinking bankruptcy could be the only possible solution towards a debt free life. Almost all debtors are not aware of two main points about bankruptcy: - Bankruptcy is not a wise method for debt solution - Bankruptcy brings noxious consequences, affecting financial and social status Here is a list of the aforementioned noxious consequences: 1. A bankruptcy filing remains on a Credit Report for as long as 10 years, and it also stays on Court Records for as long as 20 years. Thanks to this, your chances of getting a loan and even a job again, will be minimal. 2. You can also lose valuable assets when filing for bankruptcy, or you have to pay the equivalent in money. 3. As we said before, your financial and social status will be deeply affected. People tend to loose faith upon someone who has filed for bankruptcy. 4. If a business owner files for bankruptcy, he will suffer the same consequences as any other person who has filed for bankruptcy. He will not qualify again for a business loan. 5. After declaring bankruptcy, your bank accounts will be closed, credit cards, and everything that has been bought on hired purchase, such as a car or a house will be returned to the owner. People really need to understand how the bankruptcy process works in order to use it as a last resort, and not as an easy way out. Not true about Bankruptcy - Bankruptcy will not get rid of all of your debts. There are some debts that cannot be canceled, such as tax claims, alimony, child support, among others. - Although bankruptcy relieves the pressure of debt, it still leaves so many consequences that it does not feel like a fresh start. Because of this, bankruptcy is considered a temporary relief. - Bankruptcy laws are rigorous about including all your accounts. You will not be given the chance to hide any account from the bankruptcy process. - Bankruptcy turns you into a debt free person at the cost of your assets, either by liquidating them or by putting you into a new payment plan. Remember, you can always choose and try many different solutions to become debt free; but one thing is for sure, Bankruptcy should only be used when other options fail to work; use it as last resort.
