Autumn Tree Colors - Sassafras Tree

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Paul Wonning assafras albidum Family - Sassafras The sassafras is distinctive from other trees in that there are three different types of leaves on the same tree. One is an oval shape, one sort of shaped like a hand in a mitten. The third is shaped like the hand in a mitten, with an extra thumb on the other side of the hand. The leaves will turn one of two colors in the fall, a burgundy red, or golden yellow, sometimes with both colors occurring on the same tree. The bark on young trees will be green and smooth. The older the tree gets, the more furrowed the bark becomes and will start becoming more reddish brown in color. The tree will grow to about fifty feet tall, and approximately three feet in diameter. They grow fairly fas with a range of the entire eastern seaboard east of the Mississippi River and west to Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and eastern Texas. The root is especially used to make sassafras tea, perfume and to add fragrance to soaps. It has a sort of root beer aroma. The branches of young trees are grazed upon by white tailed deer. The tree will usually form small groves and will usually be found growing with persimmon, flowering dogwood, paw paw, and sugar maple. Sassafras is a colorful addition to the fall pallet of trees in the forest, the yellow and burgundy colors flashing in the autumn sun. The three distinctive leaf types make it easy to identify. 2006Paul Wonning is the owner of Gardens and Nature.com a web site about gardening, hiking and other nature related topics. Forsake Not!

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Mark E. Baker Hebrews 10:22-25. let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another. God by His Holy Spirit is saying through the writer of the book of Hebrews for us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. This was said as a commandment. Our Father knows what happens when we get out of fellowship with other believers. I know of many cases where people let the cares of this world come first and then they quit coming to Christian services , and the next thing you know they just slid away from God. This is not God’s will for us. He wants better for His children. But in order for us to have better we have to follow His precepts, and one very important precept is not to forsake the assembling, or we might say the gathering of ourselves together. This is not just Sunday morning church service although this is certainly the beginning of fellowship, us coming together. I think I should make it clear that the church is not an organization or a building. The church is the body of Christ. Any time Christians gather we should have fellowship. Something happens when we fellowship. We share the very life of God. There is a sharing of Gods life when we come together. Fellowship is much more than coming together for a church service or function, although there is nothing wrong with that. True fellowship is God’s life flowing from one believer to another. Zo, is the Greek word for the life of God, the life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself and has given to the incarnate Son to have within Himself. We are sharing Zo. Sharing the very life of God with one another. Have you ever noticed that when you are gathered together you can feel that life, you get edified, and you have the opportunity to edify others. This is that intimate sharing of the very life of God. The Word of God tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, Our Heavenly Father has very good reasons for this. One dictionary definition says that the Greek Word for fellowship means to make alive, and to give life. We are to be givers and sharers of God’s life. We are to be sharers of the very life of God. We are suppose to share this life with others. How are we to do this? Firstly we cant if we are not coming together, can we? As Hebrews says; And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another. God would not tells us to do this if it were not His will. We can’t stir up one another or exhort one another if we dont come together can we? This is a vital part of fellowship, exhorting one another and stirring up one another. You might think why is this so important. Because if we dont, we aren’t doing what God is telling us to do. If we arent doing what God is telling us to do, we aren’t going to fulfill His will. We will lose out on a blessing, and others will lose out as well because of our disobedience. Acts 2:46- 47. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people, and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. We see that the disciples were in one accord in the temple or as we would say today; in church, also they were sharing meals together in their own houses. It says with a glad heart. The result of their fellowship together was the Lord added to the church daily. I do not think this was a coincidence. Having fellowship allowed God’s life to be shared, and gave the Holy Spirit an opportunity to move amongst the body, and the Lord added to the church daily. Col:3:16: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Here is another instance where we see that we are to admonish and teach one another with the Word of God, along with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. We also see that the gifts of the Holy Spirit can come and should come into operation under these circumstances. We have to give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to move in and through us.If we dont, He wont. He will never come in uninvited, only with our permission. 1Cor:14:26: 26. How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. You will notice it says whenever we come together. Not if we come together. This is when we as believers come together, this is not talking about an evangelistic service, where you are there to share the Gospel to the lost, this is for believers only. The lost wouldnt understand some the things that go on in this type of service. This is for the edification of the body of Christ. — New Jerusalem with ApocryphaEphesians 4:16 by whom the whole Body is fitted and joined together, every joint adding its own strength, for each individual part to work according to its function. So the body grows until it has built itself up in love. We have a job to do within the body of Christ. We are suppose to build one another up first. How are we going to be effective in the kingdom of God if we are not first effective to one another. The answer to this is, we cant. We are each a part of the body of Christ, and each part is necessary for the whole of the body to work together properly. You might think, what can I do. Im not a preacher. The Word doesnt say the preacher will build the body, it says every joint adding its own strength. In other words we each contribute to the building up of the body that we are a part of. We each have God given gifts and talents the Lord has given to us to be a blessing and to minister to the rest of the body of Christ. If one person doesnt do his or her job, that means that someone else will have to do that job for them, or it wont get done. You dont have to be a Pastor or a teacher to edify the body. Get before the Lord and find your talents. Maybe it is in the choir, maybe you are good working with children, or maybe you are a great organizer. Whatever your part is, it is necessary for the body of Christ and for the whole body to function properly. So the body grows until it has built itself up in love. When we get to the point where we are all walking in the place God has given for us to walk in, then and only then will we see maturity within the whole body. The whole body grows together, and the whole body build itself up together in the love of God. It is not supposed to be the work of just some select few. We all have a vital part to play in this process. It is also vital that we admonish and teach one another with the Word of God. The importance of this cant be minimized. If we aren’t doing our job, who will? 1 Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. Romans 12:5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. The whole Body is fitted and joined together, every joint adding its own strength, for each individual part to work according to its function. I cant tell somebody else what their function is within the body of Christ, only that it is so important not only for you individually but for the body as a whole to work together in fulfilling the call of God individually and collectively. We are in the last days. Jesus is coming soon, and He has called us to do a job together. One person can’t do it alone. Our pastors can’t and are not supposed to do it alone. They are there for leadership and guidance, but we are suppose to do the work of the ministry. Ephesians 4:11-15 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head Christ. We see here there are 5 main offices within the body of Christ that help equip the saints. But read on and you will see that the reason they are there is to equip the saints so that the saints can do the work of the ministry. The New Revised Standard with Apocrypha says it like this — Ephesians 4:12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. The 5 fold ministry is there to equip you to do the work of ministry, and this ministry is the building up of the body of Christ. This is contrary to what many people believe. People say that is what I pay my pastor to do. NO its not. I said, NO IT IS NOT. We are in this together. We have to succeed together. Let’s reach for the high calling in God. Philippians 3: 14-16. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind. In other words, let us walk in the things God has shown us to walk in and not be slack, and if we need direction God will reveal this to us. Amen Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Do you want to be a joint heir with Christ? If so, I urge you to earnestly pray the following prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. (Jn.6:37), So I know You wont cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Ro. 10:13). I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. (Ro.10:9,10). I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, with the heart one believes to righteousness and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21), And I am saved! Thank You, Lord!I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God! Glory to God!!!! Amen. I was raised Catholic, and was born again at the age of 17. I received God’s call into ministry at the age of 19 and began to prepare for ministry. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1979. The Lord has called me to teach. My desire is to help all that are seeking to come into a deeper understanding of what God has done for us through Christ Jesus and I have started a web site for this purpose called The Olive Branch; Please visit us for more free studies and resources to help you on your journey.Mark Bakerhttp://www.olivebranchministries.us Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mark_E._Baker http://EzineArticles.com/?Forsake-Not!&id=314395 without prescription tramadol online tramadol prescription prescription ultram without discount ultram prescription

Annuity - This Is Your Future’s Money

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Michael Russell As we all age, we start to think about a life where we don’t have to punch in the 9 to 5 clock. Though the way things look that time may never come. The government keeps pushing back the retirement age. At the rate things are going, we may have to work until we’re 100 years old. Most people still live check to check and since so many US companies have sent their high paying jobs to other countries, many Americans are having to work two jobs, just to pay the same bills they once were able to pay with one. But for people who may have some money to invest in their future; there are some things they can do. One of those things is an annuity. An annuity is an investment that pays you back a certain amount of income over a certain period of time. This form of investment is not new. Annuities date back to the Romans. Roman citizens would make a one-time payment into something called the annua and for this they were promised that they would get payments back, over the course of their lives. Even the Middle Ages had an annuity, it was called tontines. The tontines paid an income for life and if one of the policy holders died, then the payments would be shared with the survivors. Annuities didn’t hit America until the 18th century. A company in Pennsylvania, in 1759, was created to benefit ministers and their families. It took until 1912 before Americans could buy annuities as individuals. Annuities really became popular in the 1930s. On the heels of the Great Depression, people were uncertain about the financial markets. Many people bought annuities from insurance companies during this time, because they felt insurance companies were stable and would be around to pay them. In the US, annuity contracts are regulated by each state on an individual basis. What this means is that a contract that maybe valid in one state, may not be valid in another. Insurance companies are the only ones allowed to sell annuity contracts in the US. There are two types of annuity contracts, the immediate and the deferred. The immediate annuity will guarantee payments for a certain number of years or for the lifetime of the policy holder. The deferred annuity is allowed to grow and earn interest, without being taxed. Of course, when the policy holder wants to cash-out their annuity, they will be taxed. It’s been stated many times that most Americans don’t have $250 in the bank. When you consider that most people do work and they’ve most likely been working for years; to have less than $250 doesn’t speak well for their financial situation. The government has been stressing the benefits of saving for years. Probably because they know how messed up the Social Security system really is; and there may be a group of retired Americans who will not get back any of the money they paid in, over the course of their working lives. It’s a big dilemma for poor people. Do you try to save for tomorrow, or pay your rent? The Illusion of Print Mail Services

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By DeAnna Spencer If ever there was a lazy way to easy profits in mail order it has to be the concept of letting someone else do all the work for you. In theory, it works like this: You send a camera-ready circular or ad to someone who advertises a print/mail service and they will print and mail it (along with many others) to 1,000 to 25,000 names on their own list. You simply pay a one-time charge while they do all the work. Now, multiply this by 5, 10 or more such services and you could (still theoretically speaking, of course) have several thousand of your offers in the hands of prospective buyers within a few weeks. The problem, is that it doesn’t work that easily, at least not to the point of making it profitable for the dealer who expects to become delunged with orders. Even the very best mailers in the business can produce only a small percentage of return for their clients, so you would have to have a very high markup on your offer and reach millions of people if you hope to make it profitable. If you already have a test-proven offer that produces about 3% return when you mail the offer by itself, you will be lucky to get one-half of 1% when mailed by a mailer along with hundreds of others. Yes, some offers can produce a profit, even with such a small percentage of return, but they are extremely few and far between. First of all, you would most likely have to be the high markup that is required. If the offer calls for $10 and you can produce it for $1 reality is: That’s 5 orders per thousand…50 orders per 10,000. Some offers might be able to survive on this, others cannot. You will have to do some figuring to determine whether it’s worth trying. On the down side of this practice, there has been quite a bit of speculation about such print/mail services as to their honesty and quality of their services. Many of them offer poor printing, often smudgy or in various shades of gray instead of crisp black and white; some of the lists they use are so overworked, they have become virtually worthless. Even the best mailers use primarily “Opportunity” lists, so merchandise offers would hardly be appropriate. Another flaw in this idea that some crooked mailers are out there who simply don’t mail the quantity they claim. It seems they print and mail only hundred or so, but claim to mail in the thousands. This is very difficult for anyone to prove or disapprove, so the entire idea of using a print/mail service is precarious at best. What You Believe Is What You Get

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Lee Salinas Success demands that you believe you will achieve it. If you dont believe you can do it whatever IT is - youre doomed to fail. History is replete with examples where peoples unbelief resulted in failure. Big time failure. Let me give you just one example from one of my favorite stories in the Bible that you have probably read or heard about yourself. The Israeli people had been living in bondage for over 400 years in Egypt. They were forced to live in a foreign land. They were forced to work at hard labor. They were forced to do without even the basic comforts of home. They were forced to do without those things that you and I would take for granted. The Land of NOT ENOUGH. Egypt signified the land of not enough. For 400 years, they had just enough to get by every day. Every day was a carbon copy of the day before. But deep down, they knew there had to be more to life. Like them, maybe youre just getting by. Maybe youve been getting by for so long that you no longer think it can ever get any better. The Land of MORE THAN ENOUGH. But the Israelis prayed to their God for what we all want. They were sick and tired of living in the land of just enough. Like you, they wanted a better life. In due time, God did what He always does. He answered their prayers. In fact, although they didnt know it at the time, the long wait for their prayers to be answered was worth it. God promised to give them a choice piece of real estate. God promised them safe passage to, and possession of, the Promised Land. In the Promised Land, they would never lack for anything again. In fact, God described it as the land flowing with milk and honey. The Promised Land truly represented the land of more than enough. I suppose all of us have a reluctance to believe. We say we want evidence, but even when we get evidence, we remain skeptical. That was the case with the Israelis, and it is also the case with us. Think about it. God himself told them they could have the land! Yet they took it upon themselves to put a question mark where God had placed an exclamation point. They had been living in bondage for 400 years. They were living hopeless lives of quiet desperation. They had accepted their lot in life. They didnt question. They just did the same thing they were told to do day after day. Sameness was their security. They didnt realize they were capable of much, much more. Not surprising, taking over the Promised Land sounded too good to be true. So the Israelis asked their leader, Moses, to send 12 of their own folks to go spy on the inhabitants of the Promised Land to make sure they could really take it over. Well, sure enough, 10 of the 12 spies returned from the Promised Land with a negative report. They were consumed with the fear of unbelief. They didnt measure up to the inhabitants of the land. They considered themselves mere grasshoppers compared to the giants that occupied the land. Their fear was all-consuming. Their fear was contagious. It spread to everyone in the camp. Because of their unbelief, God told them would never possess the Promised Land. But wait a minute. What about the other two spies? What did they think about occupying the Promised Land? Not surprisingly, they were ready to invade the land and take it over. Why? Did these two men have a better plan? Were they more intelligent than the other 10 spies? No. In a word, they simply believed. They had an unshakable belief that they could take the Promised Land. But they were in the minority so the majority prevailed. The entire camp made a bad choice and turned their backs on the chance of a lifetime. Because of their unbelief, they forfeited the opportunity to live in the land of milk and honey given to them by God himself. The Land of JUST ENOUGH. So what were the consequences of not taking over the Promised Land? God did not allow them to enter the Promised Land. Instead, they were relegated to wandering in the wilderness. Day after day they wandered in the desert. Sure, God took care of them. He provided them daily manna. They had just enough to survive that day. The next day, they got more of the same to survive. They wandered for 40 years. For 40 years, the desert represented the land of just enough. Gods plan was for them to leave the land of not enough and go directly to the land of more than enough. God never intended for them to wander for 40 years in the land of just enough. Gods desire was for them is the same desire He has for you and me - to live in the land of more than enough the Promised Land. But they didnt believe. Dont make the same mistake yourself. You graduated from high school. Maybe college. You got your first job where you probably made just enough for you and your family to get by. But you want a better life for you and your family. So you wander around from job to job certain your next job will pay you enough to get you to the land of more than enough. But perhaps, like the Israelis, youre just going around in circles. You will continue to wander in the desert of your life for 40 years. Then retire broke. Or you can decide to believe you can do it whatever IT is and proceed directly from the land of JUST ENOUGH to the land of MORE THAN ENOUGH. Its your choice. What you believe is what you get. How To Lose Weight With Intuitive Eating: 4 Quick Tips

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Nancy Hill Confused? Frustrated? Fed up? Do you feel bewildered after trying diet after diet and never being able to keep the weight off? In fact, if youre like most people, you eventually ended up gaining all your weight back plus a few extra instead of losing. Do you notice that there are no diet fads currently sweeping the market? Theres a simple reason. After over 100 years of dieting, its finally clear that all that effort, deprivation, planning, and starvation has only made the American public fatter. In fact, 95% of dieters gain back all their weight within 1-5 years. Diets dont work. What does work is honoring and listening to your body. Before you go on yet another diet consider looking to the natural wisdom of your body. The irony is that we each have the perfect, free, built-in diet available to us right here and now. It’s called listening to your body and it’s simple. There are just a few simple things to learn: 1) What you resist persists. The most essential step is to love and accept your body as it is right now. If youre reading this article, you are probably carrying a some extra pounds. Thats a common result of dieting. But most people were born to be of normal weight. You, too! Treat your body well and meet its needs and you will find you return to your own ideal weight easily and naturally. 2) Listen to your body. Treat your body with gentleness and tender, loving care by eating when you feel physically hungry and stopping when you are full. Overeating is usually a form of diet backlash that results from starvation and deprivation. Its the bodys survival mechanism in action to save your life from the famine it experienced. Try eating small, frequent amounts with the intention of feeling light and refreshed from eating rather than heavy and stuffed. 3) Choose to eat what you really want in each moment, not what you think you should have or what would make you good. As you make choices based on your bodys desires, you will find yourself eating better foods in smaller quantities. Sensually enjoy the food you eat. Taste the delicious flavors, enjoy the various textures. And if it isnt tasting great, get something better right then. 4) Play more, suffer less. Find some kind of movement that makes you feel like a kid again. Or take walks that feed your soul. Make exercise something you love and look forward to instead of yet another chore to feel guilty about skipping. Accept your body, meet its needs, enjoy your food, and play. Sounds better than dieting doesnt it? And it works better, too. If youre looking for a real, long-term solution to ending the battle with your weight, intuitive eating may just be the answer youve been seeking. Lose Weight by Listening to Music

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Bill Schuchman An important factor in losing weight is improving your emotional state. Why? Because losing weight is easier when you feel good. If you’re thinking negative thoughts, whether they’re negative thoughts about your body, relationships, your job, your attempt to lose weight will be more difficult. Losing weight becomes much easier when you’re in a positive emotional state. If you have challenges in your life I’m not suggesting you sugar coat those challenges. What I am suggesting is to find reasons to feel good anyway. Every cloud has a silver lining, your job is to find that silver lining and focus on it. I have found that the easiest way to improve your emotional state is to listen to music. What type of music? That’s easy. Whatever type of music you like. The only requirement is that the music that you choose be uplifting. It has to make you feel better, energized, and happy. The kind of music that makes you want to get up and move. Allow your body to become immersed in the rhythm and let your spirits soar. You might try dancing in the privacy of your home to the music. Go ahead, don’t be shy start grooving to some tunes. No only will the movement be good for your body but it’s also good for your soul. You will feel happier, younger more joyful and those good feelings will last for hours. If you don’t want to dance try doing your household chores while you’re listening to your favorite music. You might have so much fun that you might start to look forward to doing them. Music will not only make you feel happier, but studies have shown that the more you listen to music the more you tend to move your body. People who listen to music while they exercise or perform any physical activity focus on the music not the physical effort. This results in people working out longer and at a higher intensity. All of which is very good for your body and your weight loss goals. Try this little test. Pick two kinds of music; One very sad, slow, and depressing and one very happy, quick, and uplifting. Now see what effects each one has on your workout. I’ll bet the slow tape makes your workout a little harder while the quick tape makes it easier. Listening to music also provides an escape from the negative thoughts that weigh you down. When you’re listening to uplifting music you can’t help but to feel good. Your worries and concerns seem to dissipate as the melodies wash over and cleanse your soul. In a recent study, Gerene Bauldoff, Ph.D., R.N., the lead researcher and an assistant professor at the Ohio State University College of Nursing in Columbus stated that Music prevented the exercisers from focusing on how breathless they felt Bauldoff believes it can inspire all types of exercisers to extend their workouts. So break out some tunes and put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step. Now imagine that smile as you see the pounds come off.And that’s music to our ears. You Can’t Fool Mother Nature

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Patty Gale In the 1970’s, there was a margarine commercial with the message of “you can’t fool mother nature.” This statement never held more true than it does today. Up until the very early 1900’s, the farming and livestock in this country was grown and raised using natural and organic methods. It was just the way it was done and it didn’t need to be called “organic”. In the last 50 years or so, more extensive use of chemicals became widespread. Remember when a tomato actually tasted like a tomato? With the advent of chemical pesticides and herbicides for produce and steroids and antibiotics fed to livestock, is it any wonder why people are nervous about the future of our health? We are what we eat, there’s no question about that. There is a saying, “garbage in, garbage out.” Biotechnology is all the “buzzword” these days. We now have genetically modified foods in our grocery stores, except there are no labels to let you know. Genetically modified foods, (or GMO foods as they are known) are products that have been genetically mixed with DNA mixed from other foods to supposedly grow a product that is more resistant to disease and will grow faster and bigger. Ever notice how the fruit in the produce aisle is so much larger than ever before? Yet, the taste leaves much to be desired. A tomato grown in a greenhouse will never compare to a tomato grown in a backyard. It is not nearly as difficult to find stores carrying organic and steroid-free foods as it was even just 20 years ago. Organic products are becoming more mainstream than ever before and are not reserved for only for health food stores any longer. Several large grocery chains now carry complete lines of organic products as a result of the demand from consumers. It is just common sense. When you mess with nature, the outcome cannot possibly be good. This is all the more reason to choose organically grown fruits and vegetables and drug-free meats. In our next series, well show you how to change your grocery shopping habits over from traditional to organic without breaking your bank account.
